The Austrian Agency for Alternative Propulsion Systems (A3PS) was established as a public private partnership to achieve a close cooperation between the Austrian industry, research institutions and public authorities in charge of technology policies and with the goal to facilitate the development and introduction of alternative propulsion systems and fuels.

The agency was established in 2006 through an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) and it was conceived as a further instrument within the BMVIT to support the Austrian automotive industry, the energy sector and research activities beyond financial support of single projects. In this case the support takes place through a common strategic planning of the technological optimization of energy and propulsion technologies.

The A3PS offers its member institutions a broad portfolio of services:

  • Providing, compiling and analyzing information (technology foresight and assessment, studies, lectures, workshops, conferences, travel reports,...).
  • Stimulating the cooperation of complimentary partners, building up interdisciplinary research co-operations and trans-sectoral demonstration projects.
  • Supporting the creation of innovation friendly framework conditions (Regulatory- and fiscal policy, fuel taxation, endowment of research programs, 7. FP, codes and standards, emission limits, access to sensitive areas,...).
  • International networking and marketing for Austrian R&D competence and the product and engineering know how of A3PS members.

Missionstatement

  • Increasing the social and ecological acceptance of road traffic through the reduction of pollutants, noise and greenhouse gases,
  • Security of energy supply through a broad portfolio of energy carriers
